At Palmas Printing, we take pride in our history of serving the printing industry for over 37 years. Cigar bands, cut and rolls, labels for health, hygiene, liquor, food products, pharmaceuticals, and specialty material constructions using unique die cutting, printing, stamping, and custom machine building to suit client’s needs, are just the basics on which we continue to build our future.
The origins of Palmas Printing came from members of the same family who in 1874 founded George Schmitt & Co. in New York. This privately held family business serving the cigar industry with sheet fed lithography evolved into many other areas of label work. This original parent corporation spawned a number of independent corporations including Guilford Gravure for gravure and letterpress printing, Image Processing for in-house and trade pre-press services, Acitronics for gravure cylinder engraving, Schmitt E.G. for high volume converting and Schmitt E.C.S. in Ireland for high volume converting in the European market.
The collective companies developed a number of proprietary processes in converting and also hold a number of patents in a variety of fields including linerless labels, RFID, and product security. During the 1950’s Schmitt also developed roll cigar bands to combat the high cost of the industry standard at the time of using individual cut bands. For many years these bands were produced using the long run, high quality attributes of gravure leading eventually to the separation of this specialty into its own corporation located in Puerto Rico where there was a closer proximity to the cigar industry in the early 1970’s.
Palmas Printing, having evolved from the printed cigar band product line, continues the growth not only in cut and roll bands, premium bands, bar coded bands, prime labels, tags, flexible packaging, three-side seal pouches and foil wraps.
Founded in Juncos, Puerto Rico, in 1974, Palmas Printing grew in stature in the product decoration and identification industry utilizing engineering “specialists” developing equipment and processes in letterpress, gravure, flexo, and screen technologies to meet client needs.
Palmas Printing re-established operations in Melbourne, Florida in 2004. We continue to grow, not only in revenue, but also in emerging technologies, specializing in multi-color and process printing, embossing, cold foil and a variety of ink technologies.
Palmas Printing’s in-house design and pre-press capabilities include direct-to-plate, and laser engraved sleeve technology, making us self sufficient to service our client’s needs.
